اضاعت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة الفرصة على رجل الأعمال المعروف حميد الأحمر الذي كان  ينوي خصخصة قطاع الكهرباء لمدينة عدن بالتعاون مع نافذين وفرض وتكبيد المواطنين أعباء إضافية بدفع رسوم مُبالغ فيها في حال تمت صفقة خصخصة القطاع الكهربائي.

وأعلنت دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة تبنيها وتدخلها في معالجة موضوع كهرباء عدن وعلى نفقتها. ولاقى خبر تبني دولة الإمارات معالجة ملف الكهرباء إشادات واسعة النطاق واستقبل أبناء عدن الخبر بإرتياح بالغ. وأشاد خالد مهدي منسق منظمة فكر في عدن بقرار دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة تبني معالجة موضوع كهرباء عدن، وقال: إن هذا القرار يأتي في إطار الجهود التنموية التي تبذلها دولة الإمارات في عدن.
وتمنى مهدي في سياق تصريح  أن يشمل حل موضوع الكهرباء جميع المدن الساحلية حيث جميعها تعاني نفس الإشكالية، مُستهجناً في الوقت ذاته الأصوات التي تحاول الإصطياد في الماء العكر والتي تتحدث عن الكهرباء وكأنها لا تعلم أساساً بحال الكهرباء في بلادنا، مؤكداً بأنها تحاول استثمار معاناة المواطن لأجل مصالح شخصية وحزبية ضيقة.
ودعا في ختام تصريحه جميع القوى السياسية إلى تحمل مسؤوليتها الوطنية تجاه الوطن وقضاياه، بدلاً من التلاعب  بقضايا المواطنين لأغراض سياسية وكيدية ضيقة.
